When I look around at the performance of the U.S. Postal Service, the Kentucky Department of Revenue and Metro Traffic Control, I am reminded of the great thespian Slim Pickens who asked "What in the wide, wide world of sports is going on here?"
Remember the Postal Service motto: "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night keeps these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."
As Slim would say, "Horsefeathers!"
During and after the recent snowstorm, even though the Postal Service just couldn't possibly manage to bring the mail to the people, so many people did go to the post office that the Fern Creek post office had a note on its door that said "Your mail is not here! Please wait for your carrier to deliver your mail. Clear snow and ice in front of your mail box."
The Kentucky Department of Revenue said it will "temporarily pause operations" from late February to mid-March while it launches a new tax portal for business tax filers. Really? You thought that was a good idea right in the middle of tax season?
I went to the U of L game on Saturday. An hour before the game, traffic at the 3rd Street exit ramp was backed up more than a quarter mile onto I-64! That is a dangerous place to be stopped. It took me 25 minutes to get from there to the stop light at 3rd and River Road. People were there to direct traffic, but it was just horrible and it always is. Always! Metro Traffic Control needs to completely overhaul the gameday traffic plan — and quickly — because now that the crowds are coming back, the current plan will just get worse.
