Kentucky school boards have a fundamental responsibility for financial oversight and stewardship.

The JCPS board says they were blindsided by a massive $188 million deficit but they still have a fiduciary responsibility to read and understand a balance sheet.

They have the authority to sweep their mistakes away by raising your taxes. I say leave tax increases alone and then try really, really hard to somehow squeak by on your $2.3 billion budget.

Here's what our viewers had to say:

"No tax increase. The board made the problem. The board needs to fix the problem."

"Yes, the Jefferson County School Board has totally failed the, not only the children, but the parents and the citizens of Louisville."

"On the school board there, I think they should give up about 10% of their salary until they learn how to balance the budget."

"I can't afford to keep paying property taxes for their mistakes. Somebody needs to be held accountable."

Yes, I would like to know why Marty Polio, the CFO and everybody in the finance department have not been charged with fraud. If you and I had done something like this, we would probably be locked up by now."
