U.S. stocks are rising and recovering some of their losses from a rare losing week. The S&P 500 climbed 1.1% Monday and was on track to break a five-day losing streak. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 366 points, and the Nasdaq composite rose 2%. Comcast helped lead the way and jumped after saying it plans to split off its media businesses from its broadband unit. Several AI stocks also rebounded following sharp swings up and down last week. The gains came despite a rise for oil prices, while Treasury yields held relatively steady in the bond market.

The United States and Iran have separately announced they are sending delegations to Qatar this week, though Tehran insists it has not agreed to meet with the U.S. “at any level.” The announcements Monday came after weekend attacks in the Persian Gulf challenged efforts to negotiate an end to the war. U.S. President Donald Trump has tried to preserve a fragile interim deal as hostilities mounted in recent days in the Strait of Hormuz. After four days of trading strikes, both sides appeared to pause their attacks Monday. A spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry says its delegation traveling to Qatar plans to discuss terms of the deal without U.S. involvement.

An Israeli drone strike has killed at least three Palestinians, including an 8-year-old boy and his grandfather, in the Gaza Strip. Gaza medical workers say the strike hit a tent sheltering displaced people in Deir al-Balah on Monday. Israel's military said it was targeting an unnamed militant. Despite a ceasefire in October, Israeli forces have carried out near-daily strikes in Gaza, killing over 1,045 Palestinians, according to Gaza's Health Ministry. Israel says its strikes are targeting militants. Israeli forces also raided locations throughout the occupied West Bank, where the Palestinian Health Ministry reported a 15-year-old from Jerusalem was killed by a gunshot to the head.

Local health officials say the latest Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip have killed at least four Palestinians, including a 13-year-old girl. The first strike targeted a group of people in northern Gaza’s Beit Lahiya, killing two and wounding another. Another strike in southern Gaza killed a man. The 13-year-old girl was killed by shrapnel from Israeli tank shelling. Israel says it targets Hamas and other militants who pose a threat. The heaviest fighting has eased after a ceasefire in October, but new casualties are reported almost daily.

A helicopter crash in Saudi Arabia has killed all 14 people on board. The Saudi Ministry of Energy says the accident happened Sunday morning in Ras Tanura. Everyone killed was a Saudi national. The helicopter belonged to Aramco, the world's largest oil company. An investigation is underway to determine the cause. Aramco has been dealing with disruptions in oil supplies due to the Iran war. The company recently shifted some oil exports to a pipeline to avoid the Strait of Hormuz, which the war disrupted.

The White House has soured on Israel’s war with Hezbollah in Lebanon. U.S. President Donald Trump has shocked many in the region by pushing an alternative: Let Syria fight the Iran-backed militant group instead. Islamist-led insurgents formed a new government in Syria after overthrowing the autocratic President Bashar Assad a year and a half ago. Trump says they would do a better job of rooting out Hezbollah than the Israeli army. Syria's president has said he has no interest in doing so. Still, the prospect of a Syrian invasion has raised alarms in Lebanon — and also in Israel, where top security officials convened a meeting on the subject on Wednesday.

Iran has been eliminated from the World Cup, narrowly failing to advance past the group stage in a politically charged tournament where the team played its matches amid tight restrictions imposed by the United States. Iran missed the round of 32 by one spot in heartbreaking fashion. It finished third in Group G with three points earned with draws against Belgium, New Zealand and Egypt. Iran appeared to have advanced via tiebreakers when Algeria scored a stunning stoppage-time goal to go ahead of Austria 3-2 Saturday night, but Austria tied it back up seconds later on the game’s final play. Their draw ensured Iran’s elimination.
