By installing a new smoke detector, the Bardstown Fire Department helped prevent a fire from turning fatal.

With the new station being farther from downtown, it will decrease response times – with the goal of getting to fires quicker and saving more lives.

The city of Bardstown is preparing to open a new, multimillion-dollar fire station within in the coming weeks.

The new station will shave about six minutes off response times to places like Nelson County High School.
