The 25-year-old suffered multiple concussions playing as a youth at Floyd Central High School in Floyds Knobs, Indiana, and wore head gear when he played on the basketball team.

High school football participation last season was down 8.9% from the 2015-16 school year, a high-water mark across the state when 14,305 students suited up for their teams.
