Meditation has been a common feature for eons in religious traditions from Buddhism to yoga, which originated as an ancient spiritual practice in India rooted in Hindu philosophy. But now, Christian, Jewish and other religious congregations across America have been incorporating some of those practices — including those from Eastern religions like Buddhism or Hinduism. Some are even resurfacing contemplative practices of their own religions, but adapted to the needs of the modern world. Contemplative meditation has also been known in other religions as a way of finding a direct connection with God.
