Teachers at 17 Jefferson County Public Schools are losing district stipends for educators at high-needs schools, leaving some facing thousands of dollars in lost pay just days before the school year begins.

The new laws, which take effect Wednesday, cover everything from student discipline and school bus safety to school board governance and superintendent authority.

Much of the public conversation surrounding JCPS this year centered on the district's projected $188 million budget deficit and the cuts required to address it.
