House Bill 258, sponsored by Rep. C. Ed Massey, moved to the House floor on a 14-4 vote and cleared the lower chamber hours later on a 68-28 vote.

The Kentucky Association of Professional Educators supported a bill last year that prompted "sickouts" by about a dozen school districts and that would have given it control of one seat on the Kentucky Teachers Retirement System board.

The opinion comes on the fifth "sick out" at JCPS in less than two weeks as teachers protest bills they say would hurt public education.
