The vote came during the district's board meeting Tuesday evening, which marked the first time members debated the proposed cuts.

Jefferson County Public Schools heard from parents Monday for the first time since unveiling its plan to close or consolidate several schools.

A JCPS spokesperson said the school buildings haven't seen major issues from the flooding. 

As Louisville faces historic flooding after substantial rain in recent days, the state's largest school district decided to be on NTI Monday.

The district said the activities are being canceled after Gov. Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency for Kentucky ahead of anticipated severe weather Wednesday night.

This week's weather has forced school closures across the Louisville area and southern Indiana.
