Reed Sheppard became the third University of Kentucky basketball player — and first native of Kentucky — to be voted the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Freshman of the Year on Monday.

The guard from Cleveland, Tenn., was named National Freshman of the Year by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
