A beloved New Orleans hospital building where doctors and nurses heroically treated patients without electricity after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 is poised for redevelopment. Tulane University has big plans to convert the long-shuttered building into a pioneering medical research hub. Tulane says it's working with public and private investors on a $500 million plan to redevelop the landmark art deco building into a home for its public health, entrepreneurship and medical programs. Construction is expected to start this fall. Katrina was one of the deadliest and most destructive hurricanes in U.S. history, killing nearly 1,400 people and causing billions of dollars in damage.
