Too many pardons? Kentucky lawmaker wants a limit after former governor gave over 600 on his way out
State Sen. Chris McDaniel said he wants to guarantee that what happened at the end of former Gov. Matt Bevin's term never occurs again.
This is now the second time a lawsuit previously dismissed based on the lack of details in Bevin’s pardons has been overturned by the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
The ruling will allow two previously dismissed wrongful conviction lawsuits to proceed against Louisville police.
The final batch of clemency actions is expected to include a mix of criminal justice reform-minded pardons and more controversial ones secured or doled out to political allies.
Patrick Baker was convicted of killing a man during a home invasion in Knox County in 2014. He was one of hundreds of people former Gov. Matt Bevin pardoned in his final days in office earlier this month.
In the executive order, Bevin said he granted the pardon because of "the compelling testimony of Elizabeth Stakelbeck's friends and family, and her stated desire for a fresh start in life."
