A new AP-NORC poll shows that while President Donald Trump maintains deep support among Republicans, he risks frustrating his supporters if the U.S. gets involved in a prolonged war. Although the survey says about 6 in 10 Republicans back airstrikes against Iranian military targets, only 20% back deploying American ground troops. Rising prices could also pose a problem for Trump. The cost of oil and gas has soared since the Iran war began a month ago, adding financial pressure for Americans. About three-quarters of Republicans approve of Trump’s handling of the presidency, and 70% approve of how he’s handling Iran. Those ratings are in line with Republicans’ support for Trump’s foreign policy generally.
Prolonged war with Iran and high gas prices could test some Republicans’ support for Trump: AP-NORC poll.
A new AP-NORC poll finds that men and women have different views on who has the advantage when it comes to earning competitive wages. Equal pay emerged as the biggest source of concern for women in the poll — compared to getting an education, a job or a promotion — and an area where men and women are far apart in their perception of gender equity. About 3 in 10 working women say they've personally experienced wage discrimination, compared to about 1 in 10 working men. The findings come at a time when men’s earnings are rising faster than women’s, and the gender wage gap is widening. It also comes as President Donald Trump’s administration dismantles federal agencies and legal tools designed to investigate wage discrimination.
A new AP-NORC poll finds most Americans believe recent military action against Iran has gone too far and many are worried about affording gasoline. As the war launched by the U.S. and Israel continues in its fourth week, the survey indicates that while President Donald Trump’s approval rating is holding steady, the conflict could be turning into a major political liability for his Republican administration. About 59% of Americans say U.S. military action has been excessive. Meanwhile, 45% are “extremely” or “very” concerned about affording gas in the next few months, up from 30% shortly before Trump took office. However, there's significant support for Trump’s objective of preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

A new Gallup survey finds that Americans’ outlook on the job market is increasingly pessimistic. The negative shift may seem incongruous with the low unemployment rate, but the findings likely reflect an ongoing hiring drought. Just 28% of workers in a quarterly Gallup survey conducted in the last part of 2025 said now is a “good time” to find a job, with 72% saying it is a bad time. Those figures are a sharp reversal from just a few years ago, in mid-2022, when 70% said it was a good time. Pessimism is especially pronounced among young people and college graduates.
Polls open in Denmark's general election following a standoff with the US over Greenland.
A new AAPI Data/AP-NORC poll finds that most Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders believe President Donald Trump has done more harm than good on the issue of immigration and border security in his second term so far. About 6 in 10 people in this fast-growing demographic say Trump has hurt immigration and border security “a lot” or “a little." Trump's administration has instituted sweeping immigration measures since he took office, but the past two months have been especially tumultuous. The survey was conducted on the heels of the January fatal shootings by ICE agents of two U.S. citizens and their detainment of a Hmong American man — clad only in his underwear — in freezing temperatures.
When it comes to the war with Iran, President Donald Trump has cycled from calls for “unconditional surrender” to sounding amenable to an end state in which Iran trades one hard-line ayatollah for another. The shifting comments from the Republican president and his top aides have added to the precariousness of the 12-day-old conflict that's affecting the Middle East and causing economic tremors around the globe. With neither side budging, the war is now on an unpredictable path and a credible endgame is unclear.
