Queens University takes its “street dog” mindset to the NCAA Tournament, and it even brings a ceramic mascot named Buddy. Coach Grant Leonard and his players fly to St. Louis for a first-round game against Purdue. Leonard bought Buddy after hearing players call themselves “street dogs” instead of spoiled “PetCo dogs.” Buddy now travels with the team and goes to the player who shows the most grit after each game. Queens has about 1,500 students and is based in Charlotte. Queens is a 25 1/2-point underdog.
