The move is part of an effort to overhaul the state's juvenile justice system after fights, fires, and most recently a riot in November 2022 at the detention center in Adair County.

The state will re-purpose its Louisville Day Treatment Center building on LaGrange Road to house detention services in the wake of Louisville Metro Government closing its Youth Detention Services facility on Tuesday.
