The legislation, Senate Bill 250, now heads to Gov. Matt Bevin’s desk for his signature or veto after the 54-42 vote. If it becomes law, SB 250 will allow Pollio and his successors to override principal selections by school-based decision making councils, enter contracts worth up to $20,000 and demote administrators.

Despite efforts by JCPS teachers, the House Local Government Committee passed Senate Bill 250 on a 10-6 vote with one “pass” vote.
Senate Bill 250, sponsored by Senate Majority Caucus Chair Julie Raque Adams, would allow JCPS Superintendent Marty Pollio and his successors to hire principals instead of school-based decision making, or SBDM, councils and enter contracts worth up to $20,000 without approval by the Jefferson County Board of Education.
