Senate President Pro Tem David Givens said he expects Kentucky lawmakers will be “leaning directly into” the question of teacher pay raises in the upcoming session.

Senate Bill 158, sponsored by Senate President Pro Tem David Givens, passed on a 10-0 vote en route to the Senate floor. 

A new law passed this year changed how schools are identified for targeted support and improvement, but the U.S. Department of Education found the new criteria too restrictive.

Legislation that would change how Kentucky schools are identified for additional state support based on student performance may be revised based on concerns raised Thursday by Education Commissioner Wayne Lewis.
