Caitlin Clark returned from a one-game absence with a back issue to score 22 points and lead the Fever to a 90-82 win over Golden State. Clark said before the game that her decision to not play in Wednesday’s game against Portland because of a sore back was mostly dictated by her confidence level in her body. She returned this season from a plethora of injuries that limited her to 13 games last season. Wednesday's game was the first that Clark has missed this season. She says her confidence has gone up and down.

The WNBA has warned the Indiana Fever for not properly reporting an injury to star guard Caitlin Clark. The warning confirmed to The Associated Press on Thursday came a day after Clark was a late scratch because of a back injury. Clark missed Wednesday’s 90-73 victory over Portland. The Fever disclosed Clark’s injury less than two hours before tipoff. She had not been listed on Indiana’s injury report a day earlier when she didn’t practice. The WNBA requires teams to list players who are injured on a report by 5 p.m. the night before the game. If a player’s status changes overnight or early in the day the team is supposed to update the injury report.

WNBA All-Star Caitlin Clark has been named the grand marshal for this year’s Indianapolis 500. The Indiana Fever star has helped push women’s basketball to new heights in both the college and professional ranks, routinely attracting sellout crowds and prompting some opponents to move games to larger venues. Her basketball schedule prevented her from previously participating in race week activities. She will join a long list of celebrities who have been the grand marshal. Baseball stars Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez and award-winning singer Blake Shelton have had the honor in the past.

She had not been listed on Indiana’s injury report a day earlier. The star guard has not missed a game this season after her 2025 campaign was cut short by a series of injuries. Clark is averaging 24.3 points, nine assists, five rebounds and one assist in four games. Clark has spoken this season about lingering back issues. After the Fever’s season-opening loss, she said her back “gets out of line pretty quickly.”

The Chicago Sky got off to a hot start to the season, but the health of young star Rickea Jackson is foremost on their minds after she had a non-contact injury on her left knee in Sunday’s win over Minnesota. Jackson injured her knee in the second quarter and will have an MRI on Monday. The Sky went 3-1 on the season-opening road trip and will return home to face Dallas on Wednesday. The 6-foot-2 forward was acquired by the Sky in the offseason in a trade with Los Angeles. She was averaging 22 points a game before getting hurt Sunday.

It was Clark’s 12th game with at least 20 points and 10 assists, the most in WNBA history. Kelsey Mitchell and reserve Sophie Cunningham added 17 points apiece for Indiana on Sunday night. Indiana was without All-Star Aliyah Boston, who missed her first game in her four years as a pro with a lower right leg injury and is listed day to day. Natisha Hiedeman scored 19 points to lead the Storm.
