LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Bellarmine men's and women's soccer has had a strong first two-thirds or so of the season with pretty different coaching scenarios. The women are on their fourth coach in four years. The men have had the same coach for almost three decades and he has decided to move into a different role at the university after this season.

Tim Chastonay said he thought he'd coach at Bellarmine for maybe a couple of years and then try something different. It turned out he hasn't wanted to do anything different.

The Bellarmine grad is in his 28th and final season as head coach. He announced a couple of weeks ago that he'll retire from coaching and become a Senior Associate Athletic Director at the school after this season's final whistle.

"The opportunity presented itself in the athletic department and I've always thought about doing something different here at Bellarmine and I really think the team is in a good spot," said Chastonay. "We've got good veteran players. We've got good young players and we've got a good coaching staff. It all just seems to fit at the right time."

"I think he's made me a much, much better player and a better person off the field," said senior midfielder Brendan Schoemehl. "I can't say enough good things about him."

Chastonay is the all-time leader in program wins with 243 and counting for the men's program, which is 5-2-2 this season. He also happens to be the all-time leader in wins for the women's program with 119. He was in charge of both programs for the first twelve years of his time coaching.

He is excited to see the success the women's program is having this season.

Former NKU assistant Steve Bornhoffer took over that program just before preseason practice was starting after the previous coach took another coaching job and a team that had won no more than five games in five previous seasons in Division One is 8-2-2.

"There's more creativity which I think just allows people to play more freely," said senior defender Dakota Bramer. "Coach Steve has been great and we're happy to have him and grateful that he stepped into the role with little time before the season."

Bornhoffer credits the players for the success and says he's been lucky to share an office next to Chastonay.

"You've been around for a little bit, can you give me some advice here? How do they do things here?," said Bornhoffer of his conversations with Chastonay. "Obviously, just logistical schedules and things like that. He's been awesome."

Chastonay is hoping for a strong finish for his team, winners of four straight, and then looks forward to helping all the programs at the University.

"I've been through it all," said Chastonay. "Some good, some bad but I really think my experiences and my knowledge at this point can help them out and I can stay at Bellarmine."
