LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville City FC will host Cancun FC in a friendly later this summer at Lynn Family Stadium.
The club announced Friday that the match will be played at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 13. On July 9, the club said the match was rescheduled for Sept. 10.
“To bring in a Cancún team that just won a title will be a great test for our team and another opportunity to connect with the local Hispanic community,” club president James O’Connor said in a news release Friday. “We encourage everyone to continue supporting these international friendlies and the unique experiences they create on and off the field.”
Cancun FC was founded in 2020 and won the Liga de Expansion MX's Apertura last year. The Iguanas, as they're dubbed, compete in Mexico's second tier of soccer.
"We are delighted to play a game in a great city like Louisville against a team that is top of the USL," Giovanni Solazzi, vice president of Cancún FC, said in a news relase Friday. "It's a good opportunity to foster the relationship between USL and Liga de Expansión MX and a precedent to promote more international games between the two leagues in the future."
