LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) -- A local team is keeping their World Series dream alive.
WDRB's Keith Kaiser spent some time with the Fern Creek 8U All Stars before the big tournament.
The young softball team advanced to the Babe Ruth World Series after winning the Ohio Valley Regional Championship.
Coach Donnie Shephard has taken other Fern Creek teams to the big show.
Back then, his daughter played on the team.
Now, he gets to coach his granddaughter and her teammates under the bright lights.
All the girls are excited to compete in a sport they love.
The team will travel to Florence, Alabama to compete July 24th through August 2nd.
They will go through pool play (round-robin games) to establish their place in the bracket tournament.
Then, teams will be seeded into single or double-elimination brackets to determine a champion.
