Drought started to become a problem across the region in the middle of June when we had a stretch of hot (90+ degree) and dry days. Since then, we have had spurts of heavy rain across much of the area multiple times.
After 1-3" of widespread rain last week, we have made a dent in the drought across Kentuckiana! Many places west of I-65 in Southern Indiana dropped from moderate drought to abnormally dry. Other places in KY and In dropped from abnormally dry to no drought. Drought did not increase anywhere across our viewing area.
One thing to note is this dataset does not include the rain from Tuesday and Wednesday, so we are actually in a better spot than currently depicted in many places. Rain chances will be very slim through the beginning of next week, but decent downpours may be possible for those that catch these pop-up showers and storms. Realistically, don't expect to pick up much rain, and make sure to water your fragile plants!
