Brooks Houck indicted on theft charges in Nelson County
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The man who was named the main suspect in the disappearance of Bardstown mother Crystal Rogers has been indicted on theft charges.
Officers arrested Brooks Houck on Wednesday afternoon. He faces four felony theft counts and was given a $25,000 full cash bond. He was also given a dusk to dawn curfew, with the only exceptions to be work, medical appointments or family emergencies.
On Wednesday afternoon, officials from local, state and federal agencies were seen coming and going from Houck's home in Bardstown for about an hour. At least one witness said shingles were seen taken away from the home as well as three evidence bags and a computer modem.
"It was strange," said Sammy Johnson, who witnessed the search. "This was supposed to be about shingles. And why do you have the federal agents that are searching? This ain't about shingles, I don't think. I think it's bigger."
Houck was also ordered to have no contact with Lowe's, where he's accused of stealing from. He'll be arraigned on the charges on Aug. 2.
Houck, the father of Rogers' baby, was named the main suspect in her disappearance shortly after her empty car was found in 2015. He has never been charged in that case.
"We know what happened and who caused it to happen, and everything is a little bit of justice for us and the family," Johnson said. "And we hope this is one step closer to getting that justice for us."
Houck's brother, Nick Houck, was even fired from the Bardstown Police Department for interfering with the investigation. The Houck family farm has also been searched numerous times, and evidence taken from those searches was sent off to forensics labs.
Following one of those searches, a detective said it's believed a crime involving Rogers occurred on that farm. She has not been found.
