Police release image of truck in hit-and-run that killed bicyclist on Westport Road

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police have released an image of the vehicle they believe was involved in a hit-and-run last week on Westport Road that killed a 32-year-old bicyclist.

The crash happened around 4 a.m. Aug. 30 between Westport Middle School and Ormsby Lane. Police say Kell Palletti was riding his bike when he was hit by a pickup truck that left the scene.

LMPD posted an image taken from the scene of the hit-and-run on Twitter Monday afternoon.

Police believe the vehicle was last seen traveling northbound on Herr Lane from Lyndon Lane, but it's unclear when.

The vehicle is described as a regular-cab, late 1990s to mid-2000s Chevy or GMC pickup truck. The headlight on the driver's side appears to be damaged or inoperable, but the parking light is functional. The passenger side headlight appears to be angled outward, and was possibly damaged in the hit-and-run.

Police also say the vehicle has silver running boards, and a white mid-rise topper with full windows on both sides.

The crash on Westport Road happened within 48 hours of another deadly hit-and-run with a bicyclist, prompting police to encourage bike safety in the city.

23-year-old Austin Melvin was hit and killed by a U-Haul while riding his bike on Preston Highway around 10:30 p.m. last Tuesday. Police are also still searching for the driver of the U-Haul, while Melvin's family is pleading for the driver to do the right thing come forward.

If you have any information on either crash or have seen this vehicle, you're urged to contact LMPD's anonymous tip line at 574-LMPD (5673).
