LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man has been charged with murder more than two years after police say he hit and killed a tow truck driver.
On Oct. 3, 2016, prosecutors say 36-year-old William Hillard was driving a van on Dixie Highway, near Dixie Beach Road. Police say he sideswiped 42-year-old tow truck driver Steven Simpson, who was in the process of loading a vehicle onto a wrecker.
Simpson, a Meade County man and a father of three, was pronounced dead at the scene.Â
According to Jeff Cooke, a spokesman for the Commonwealth Attorney's Office, Hillard was indicted on Oct. 30 -- more than two years later -- after a toxicology report indicated he was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
He was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Nov. 5, on a charge of murder, but he failed to show up for his arraignment. As a result, Cooke said a bench warrant was issued for Hillard's arrest.Â
Louisville Metro Corrections records indicate that Hillard was taken into custody Wednesday morning. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday.
