LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky Derby isn't until the first Saturday of May but the Cheer Derby took center stage this weekend.
Sunday marked the second day of the cheerleading and dance competition over at the Kentucky Expo Center.
Each level championship received $1,000. But it's not just about competing, it's about teamwork and dedication.
"This event for the girls is making sure everybody is happy," Jasmine Richardson-Bullock, representative of Derby City Cheer, said. "Getting on that stage with the lights and performing for their parents and know that they're doing their best is probably the best thing about cheerleading."
This weekend was the 10th year hosting the event.
