LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- People won't need tickets this year for a prime seating spot to watch the Pegasus Parade.

The annual parade goes down Broadway in downtown Louisville as part of the Kentucky Derby Festival. It is scheduled for April 28 at 3 p.m.

This year, Churchill Downs is sponsoring all general admission bleacher seating for the event. More than 3,000 seats along the route from Jackson to 9th streets will be free.

"The Zoeller Pump Company Pegasus Parade is a Derby Festival tradition that has been bringing our community together for nearly seven decades," Matt Gibson, Kentucky Derby Festival president and CEO, said in a news release. "Thanks to our partnership with Churchill Downs, we look forward to bringing even more people to downtown Louisville and offering our Festival fans and families a front-row view to see unique floats, equestrian units, marching bands and more at this one-of-a-kind event."

The bleacher seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The parade theme is "Celebrating Derby 150" for the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby.

The 69th annual parade is accepting applications for participants. The deadline to apply to participate in the Pegasus Parade is Jan. 31.

Thunder Over Louisville is the opening ceremony to the Kentucky Derby Festival. It happens this year on Saturday, April 20. The daylong airshow and fireworks will be broadcast on WDRB. It will also be streamed on WDRB.com and our WDRB+ app on Fire, Apple and Roku television.
