LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Speed cameras are coming to new construction zones in Indiana.

Cameras will enforce speeds at four work sites in the state by April 1. The newest Safe Zone spans a stretch of Interstate 74 in Shelby and Decatur counties, near Indianapolis.

If you're caught going more than 11 miles over the speed limit, the cameras will take a photo of your license plate and a citation will be mailed to you.

The Safe Zone program aims to protect both drivers and road workers.

"It's the season where these construction zones are going to continue, but they're also going to be popping up in areas where you don't expect, so always be prepared for that," said Sgt. John Perrine, with Indiana State Police.

According to a 2025 report, the Indiana Department of Transportation saw a 71% decrease in excessive speeding.
