LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The community is coming together to provide holiday meals to more than 1,600 families in Louisville.

Volunteers gathered Monday morning at Fourth Street Live! to help load food for the 14th annual Boxes of Love event with Metro United Way. Each holiday meal will feed a family of four and includes a ham and numerous sides.

The meal was assembled by volunteers, and then delivered by first responders, veterans, and union members to veterans, Fort Knox soldiers and families in need.

"We got to help each other out as much as we can. There's a lot of people out there who can't have a good Christmas, and are worried about food coming to the table - let along get for the kids. So we feed'em - that's less stress for them," said Kevin Kazunas, former IBEW Local 369 president.

2024 will mark a 14-year total of 17,700 Boxes of Love provided to families in need, feeding almost 80,000 people.
