LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Elizabethtown Police Department's K-9 Indy received a pretty special donation from Vested Interest in K-9s - a protective vest to keep him safe.
Established in 2009, Vested Interest in K-9s is a non-profit organization that provides bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States.
Indy's vest was custom fitted and made specially for him. It was generously donated by Barbara Stefanow of Mayfield, KY, and embroidered with āIn Memory of Stephen Paul Stefanow Jr.ā
The Vested Interest in K-9s is open to any dog in the United States that is at least 20 months old and actively employed. K-9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate.
They have provided over 5,300 vests to K-9s across the country.
