A Kentucky artist who turns surrendered guns into art is setting up a gallery at the Lexington Public Library, LEX18 reported this week.

When Craig Kaviar first came up with the idea to turn guns into art, he had a hard time getting the surrendered guns for his projects. He said the guns have to be given to Kentucky State Police, by law, which then auctions them off. And oftentimes, they end up back on the streets.

But Kaviar found a safe surrender group, called Guns to Gardens Louisville, which collects the guns and gives them to him to be transformed.

"Well I just think it's a fascinating combination of art, really reaching out into the community and being about something more than just something to look at," Kaviar said.

The gallery in Lexington is set to open on Friday and will be in place until Nov. 10.

Kaviar opened Kaviar Forge in 1985. For more information about Kaviar's business, click here. And for more information about Guns to Gardens, click here or contact guns2gardenslouisville@gmail.com.
