SHELBY COUNTY, Ky. (WDRB) — A man died Monday afternoon in Shelby County when a barn that was under construction collapsed onto several people.

The Shelby County Coroner's Office said the incident happened just before 2 p.m. on Dover Road near the Oldham County line.

Carrie Turk and her husband own the property. Turk said the barn being built on the farm was designed for horses and included large roof trusses that were being installed when the accident happened.

"The wind hit the truss and about six or seven guys come down with the truss," Turk said.

Turk said she was devastated by the accident.

"Yeah. It’s horrible," she said.

The Shelby County Coroner identified the victim as 35-year-old Molina Mazarieggos. Investigators said he was working from an aerial lift, commonly known as a cherry picker, while crews were putting the roofing system into place.

According to the coroner, several trusses began to fall, knocking Mazarieggos from the lift.

Several workers were treated at the scene and two other workers were taken to the hospital with injuries. Their conditions have not been released.

Turk said she did not personally know the workers involved but plans to learn more about the man who died.

"I’m going to find out who the gentleman was, though, because I feel horrible," she said.

Investigators from Shelby County Emergency Management, the sheriff’s office and OSHA are expected to examine what caused the collapse. Officials did not say how many workers were on the site at the time, though witnesses claimed some of the workers were related to the victim.

The builder involved in the project did not respond for comment.
