LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A firefighter was hospitalized Saturday for heat-related symptoms after a heavy fire broke out at a home in Louisville's Douglass Hills neighborhood.
According to officials, units from Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS, St. Matthews Fire Department and Jeffersontown Fire & EMS responded at 12:46 p.m. to a house fire in the 10500 block of Lawrencekirk Court.
Officials said heavy fire and smoke were coming from the attached garage of the home. Crews made entry and conducted an interior attack to extinguish the fire and contain it to the garage.
Two adults were inside the home at the time of the fire but got out when crews arrived.
Officials said the garage sustained extensive damage, but firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the home, which sustained smoke damage.
It took 35 firefighters 26 minutes to bring the fire under control.
Officials said the firefighter was hospitalized as a precaution, and no one else was injured.
