LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A suspected home intruder was hospitalized Friday after a man wrestled a weapon away from him and stabbed him.
According to Matthew Sanders, a spokesperson for Louisville Metro Police, officers responded to a home in the 3200 block of Springfield Drive just before 11:30 p.m.
The home is in the Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood. Police said a man and his wife were inside when a masked man entered the home and stabbed the husband.
In an update, police identified the suspect as 25-year-old Andrew Kastor. The husband was able to wrestle the weapon away and stab Kastor, police said.
The victim said when it comes to his family, he'll protect them at all costs.
"I'm going to do what I have to," Michael Depotty told WDRB. "I don't care if on the verge of death or not, my kids will be my kids and they will be protected."
Depotty said he's still in shock after the incident happened while his children were also home.
"I wanted him to know that his daddy would do anything to keep them out of harm's way," Depotty said.
Depotty said he was sitting on his couch when someone's head popped up near his kitchen window. He went to close the blinds, but the door had already been forced open, according to Depotty.

Depotty said the intruder attacked him with a knife that he took from his car.
"When he swung, I put my arm in front," Depotty said. "That's when I stumbled and landed in the dishwasher, somehow he scalped this and pulled the skin up."
Depotty said he was able to kick Kastor's leg out from under him.
"From that point I got a couple of licks in and regretfully stabbed him a couple of times," Depotty said.
Kastor fled on foot before an LMPD K-9 found him hiding in a nearby trash can.
Police said Kastor was taken to UofL Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Depotty was cut and needed stitches.
Depotty said Kastor is his wife's former fling who took it too far. He said the man's biggest mistake was breaking into his home.
"Don't come into mine," Depotty said.
A mugshot for Kastor was not immediately made available. His possible charges are not known at this time.
