Oldham County Jail to start offering new opioid overdose reversal kits

The jail said it will be the first in Kentucky to offer these specific kits, called ONEbox.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Oldham County's jail says it will be the first in Kentucky to offer a new tool aimed at saving lives.

The Oldham County Detention Center will soon begin offering opioid overdose reversal kits to visitors and inmates being released.

The jail said it will be the first in Kentucky to offer these specific kits, called ONEbox. Each kit contains naloxone and an instructional video on how to use it.

The county purchased the kits using $65,000 secured by the state in massive settlements against prescription drug manufacturers.

"Those of us that work in this jail know that the days immediately when they leave are some of the highest risk times for fatal opioid overdoses," Oldham County Jailer Jeff Tindall said. "Recovery cannot begin if someone doesn't survive."

The Oldham County Health Department is already distributing the kits around the community, including at motels and convenience stores.
