SOUTHERN INDIANA PRIDE

The Southern Indiana Pride Parade and Festival was held on June 4, 2022.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- June is Pride Month, and southern Indiana is getting ready to host its own Pride Festival.

Southern Indiana Tourism and Southern Indiana Pride held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday afternoon to kick off this year's festival.

The festival started in 2016 with only a few hundreds of people. This year, more than 5,000 are expected to attend the festival, which is expected to be the biggest version ever with 70 vendors.

"We had to close it off and turn people away, which is crazy," said Sarah Johnson, president of the Southern Indiana Pride Festival. "Just the number of people that have stepped forward and wanted to be a part of this has really just been completely astounding."

This year's festival will be held from 4-11 p.m. Saturday at Big Four Station Park in Jeffersonville.
