LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Thousands of people are in Louisville for what's considered the world's largest purebred livestock show.
The 51st North American International Livestock Exposition kicked off Thursday at the Kentucky Exposition Center. The two-week event brings thousands of people to the city each year to showcase their best livestock.
The exposition showcases eight different species, including cattle, goats, horses, llamas, alpacas, hogs and sheep.
More than 23,000 animals will strut their stuff in the halls of the Expo Center. Exhibitors from across the U.S. and Canada will take their best livestock to the show ring, looking to secure the purple and gold banner.
There will also be more than 100 vendors in the North American Country Store. The exposition also includes the North American Championship Rodeo, which runs next week from Nov. 14-16.
The expo has been held every year in Louisville since 1974, when it only ran for a week.
General admission tickets cost $8 and can be purchased at the gate. Parking is not included, but can be purchased in advance for $12 online by clicking here. You can also buy tickets to the North American Championship Rodeo, starting at $10 per person, by clicking here.
The expo runs through Nov. 21.
