LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 16-year-old has taken hitchhiking to all new heights: 38,000 feet, to be exact.

Police say the teen hid in the wheel well of a plane from California to Hawaii. Officials say the boy fought frigid temperatures and a lack of oxygen.

So how did he get there?

The boy claims he ran away from home, hopped the airport fence in San Jose and hitched a ride on the flight.

He's been released to Child Protective Services and will not be charged with a crime.
