LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — More Kentucky counties will receive federal assistance after widespread flooding in April.

Wednesday, Gov. Andy Beshear said President Donald Trump's Administration approved his requests for Individual Assistance for 24 more counties throughout the commonwealth, including Jefferson County. This now brings the total number of counties getting assistance to 37, 13 of which were approved April 25. 

The new 24 counties announced Wednesday include: Breckenridge, Bullitt, Calloway, Daviess, Garrard, Grayson, Hancock, Hart, Henderson, Henry, Jefferson, LaRue, Lincoln, McLean, Meade, Muhlenberg, Nelson, Ohio, Oldham, Pendleton, Powell, Trimble, Warren and Webster. Beshear made the request for these counties to be included on April 28 and May 5.

“This process takes time, and we will continue to request more counties be added until everyone affected receives the support they need and deserve," Beshear said in a news release Wednesday.

When applying for assistance, make sure to:

  • Upload documents on the FEMA website or using the FEMA app
  • Your damaged home is your primary residence
  • You haven't received assistance for the same loses from another source like insurance
  • You can be reached by FEMA at the contact information you provide

If you disagree with FEMA's decision, you can appeal online, in person at a Disaster Recovery Centers, or by mail. 

Rounds of severe weather and widespread flooding last month brought devastation to much of the Kentuckiana area, killing at least seven people, according to Beshear's office. The Ohio River crested at Louisville's McAlpine Upper gauge at 36.63 feet, making it one of the 10 worst floods in the city's history.
