LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An investigation is underway after three children were killed and a fourth child was critically injured in a house fire in Jackson County, Kentucky.

In a news release on Christmas Eve, Kentucky State Police said the fire happened just before midnight Tuesday on Upper Dry Fork Road in McKee, which is about 30 miles southeast of Richmond.

Three children died a the scene including a 7-month-old, a 2-year-old, and a 3-year-old.

KSP said a fourth child, a 4-year-old, was taken to University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital and later transferred to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. No information was given about the child or the extent of their injuries.

Three adults ages 22, 23 and 76 were rescued from the fire and taken to UK Chandler Hospital in Lexington for treatment of injuries sustained in the fire.

The cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the deaths remain under investigation.
