LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Clark Memorial Bridge — also known as the 2nd Street Bridge — will be closed in both directions for several hours Wednesday evening.
The bridge that connects southern Indiana to 2nd Street in downtown Louisville is scheduled to close during the evening hours of Wednesday, July 24, starting at 7 p.m. It is scheduled to reopen at midnight.
It will be completely closed to vehicles and pedestrians during that time.
According to a news release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the closure will allow crews to inspect, repair and update the bridge's decorative lighting on the bridge.
KYTC officials said the full closure of the bridge is necessary to accommodate lift trucks and other equipment. The lighting will enhance the aesthetic appeal of the historic bridge while also also improving visibility for drivers and walkers, according to the release.
Drivers that normally use the bridge should plan ahead and look for alternate routes when possible. The suggested detour routes are Interstate 64 (Sherman Minton Bridge) or Interstate 65 (Lincoln and Kennedy Bridges).
Electronic message boards will be placed in the area to notify drivers of the closure and alternate routes.
