LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Newly obtained dashcam video shows the four-vehicle chain reaction crash that sent a semitruck dangling from the 2nd Street Bridge earlier this year.

The wreck occurred about noon March 1 and captured national attention after the rig broke through the railing of the bridge, resulting in a daring rescue of the semitruck driver by the Louisville Fire Department.

The dashcam video from the cab was shown in a court hearing Wednesday for 33-year-old Trevor W. Branham. He was arrested in late March in connection with the crash. He is charged with four counts of wanton endangerment and one count of operating on a suspended license.

The video was released at a court hearing for pickup driver that police say caused the crash.

Branham has pleaded not guilty to four wanton endangerment charges and one count of driving on a suspended license. His case has been sent to a Louisville grand jury. He was released from jail in March on a $20,000 partially secured bond.

Branham is in a wheelchair after breaking several bones in the wreck. His attorney argued it was just a car wreck, but police overreacted because of the media coverage.

Witnesses told police that Branham's Chevrolet C1500 truck was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic in the southbound lanes, when it hit a stalled vehicle in the right lane.

Police said Branham's vehicle then lost control and crossed into northbound lanes, hitting another car with two people inside before crashing into the Sysco semi tractor-trailer driven by 26-year-old Sydney Thomas.

LMPD Detective Clarence Beauford testified Thomas "went off the west side of the bridge ... hanging off the river, off the bridge."

Thomas went to the hospital but was not physically injured, according to the detective.

Witnesses said Branham was driving erratically, speeding and changing lanes, Beauford testified.

The video played in court Wednesday appeared to confirm witness accounts, showing a pickup truck swerving to avoid the stalled vehicle before crashing into the semi, which then hit a bridge support beam on the west side of the bridge before going through the iron fence railing.

The semi snagged on the bridge beam, which kept it from dropping into the Ohio River. Sydney was trapped in the cab approximately 45 minutes before she was rescued. Dramatic video, which you can watch in full below, shows Bryce Carden being lowered from a rope and pulling Sydney up to safety.

The driver of the big rig was trapped in the cab for nearly 45 minutes before being rescued by members of the Louisville Fire Department.

Branham's arrest report said he "drove the vehicle under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life, placing himself and other motorists at risk for serious physical injury or death."

But Branham's attorney, Scott Barton, argued police could not determine how fast Branham was going or whether he was weaving, according to the traffic report.

Barton told the judge "this is a traffic accident that happens everyday" with no proof his client was speeding.

"This one just happens to be on the news and they charge him with a wanton endangerment first because it's on the news," Barton argued.

The prosecution argued Branham's actions created a risk of injury or death, that he was speeding and weaving on a narrow bridge and his license was suspended at the time of the wreck.

Jefferson District Court Judge Anne Delahanty agreed to send the case to the grand jury which is expected to hear the case in mid-June, according to court records.

A request to raise his bond was denied.

"He's not going anywhere in his wheelchair," Barton said.

Branham is not allowed to drive.
