LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- WDRB said so long to three major players from behind the scenes Friday. Three longtime employees retired after decades of service.
Production manager David Callan is wrapping up nearly 40 years in television, more than 20 of those at WDRB. You probably don't know him, but we can guarantee you've seen his work.
David has been the brains behind our complex coverage of Thunder Over Louisville on WDRB with dozens of cameras across two states. He also leads our incredible production team of directors, studio camera and graphics operators — all the people you see in our control room.
David is now going to lead the next generation of production experts teaching at a local high school.
Also marking his retirement is editor Perry Waiters, who is retiring after nearly 26 years at WDRB. Much of that time he was behind the scenes for the morning show.
Perry started his career in TV news in 1977 in Lexington. He moved to Louisville in 1980 to work in sports at WHAS. He did it all there: photographer, reporter, editor and assignment desk until he came to WDRB in 1998.
Perry has been a critical part of our team for more than a quarter of a century and is both a great editor, great man and a great baker known for bringing the staff his banana and zucchini breads.
He asked that we all wear Hawaiian shirts on his final day, so we did. We also made sure everyone in the building had a lei to wear, as well!
And finally, Kay Bush is calling it a career after 19 years as a national sales coordinator at WDRB. She has always been a smiling face and positive force helping along our amazing sales team.
Kay has worked long past the time when many would have retired. She's looking forward to reading, dancing and spending time with her husband, kids and grandchildren.
The WDRB team will miss all three, as they head to new adventures, but we all appreciate everything they've done and everything they've contributed to our success. Congratulations, David, Perry and Kay!
