LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Work has begun to restore the Home of the Preakness Stakes.
Old barns and outbuildings are the first to be demolished at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.
According to the track's website, the transformation will include a new state-of-the-art grandstand with new restaurants, event spaces and the latest technology. Crew will also rebuild the grandstand, track and clubhouse.
The grand total on the renovations is $400 million, and work is expected to wrap up in time for the 2027 Preakness race.
In the meantime, next year's Preakness will happen at Laurel Park in Laurel, Maryland.
