LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 62-year-old man was rescued from a burning home in the Portland neighborhood late Monday evening.

According to a news release from the Louisville Fire Department, the fire was reported around 9:40 p.m. at a home in the 3100 block of Bank Street. Crews arrived on scene within minutes and were told four people were in the home when it started, and one person was still inside.

Firefighters "conducted a rapid search" and found the man in the basement near the area where the fire is believed to have started.

He was taken from the home "and immediately transferred to EMS for treatment," according to the release. There has been no updated to the man's condition. 

The other three people inside — one adult and two children — evacuated the building safely. The American Red Cross was called to assist the residents.

It took 11 minutes to bring the fire under control. A total of 26 firefighters, four engines, and two trucks responded to the scene, and crews kept the fire from spreading to other homes. 

Louisville Arson is working to determine the cause of the fire.
