75-year-old man dies in crash on Watterson Expressway

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One person was killed in a crash on I-264 on Thursday morning.

LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell said it happened around 10:30 a.m. on the Watterson Expressway at Bardstown Road. Mitchell said a semi gas tanker was merging from the center lane to the right lane and hit the back of a Mazda Miata that was also eastbound.

The Mazda spun out and collided with another eastbound vehicle before coming to rest under the tanker. Mitchell said the driver of the Mazda, identified by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office as 75-year-old Robert Rosedale, was pronounced dead at the scene. Rosedale died of multiple blunt force injuries, Deputy Coroner Charles Edelen said.

The eastbound lanes were shutdown until about 3:30 p.m. Traffic was so backed up that police decided to close down access to the Watterson Expressway from Interstate 65. Those ramps have been reopened, as well.
