After 6 years, family of murdered Louisville man worries case will go unsolved

LOUISVILLE, Ky, (WDRB) -- Six years after a Louisville man was gunned down in his home, his family is not giving up when it comes to finding his killer.

21-year-old Bryan Lewis was murdered on Oct. 20th, 2012, while at his mother’s home near Taylor Blvd in South Louisville. Someone knocked on the door at 2:30 a.m. and when Lewis answered he was shot in the face four times. The family dog was also killed.

Saturday afternoon, nearly two dozen friends and family lined the intersection of Taylor Boulevard and Bicknell Avenue holding signs to remind drivers the search of Lewis’ killer is still on.

“Every year I am out here doing this ... trying to get answers for myself. It is hard,” Lewis’ mother, Rhonda Mars, said.

Flyers were stapled to telephone phones advertising the $10,000 reward. Lewis’ six-year-old daughter helped in the process. She made a sign that read “Justice for daddy.”

Lewis’ mom says every day when her phone rings she thinks it could be the one she’s prayed for.

“Every time I get a '574' number I think ‘here it is. This is our answer,’ but nothing so far, nothing yet,” Mars said. “The more flyers I can put out and the more people know about it maybe I’ll get answers.”

Mars told WDRB that with each passing day she becomes less optimistic her son’s killer will be found.

“I have my doubts every day. I have waited so long," she said.

In the meantime, she fears that person may someday come back, a concern she shares with those she is close to – including Lewis’ daughter.

“I’m scared for her, I am scared for me, I’m scared for my other son. It’s horrible,” Mars said.

The family plans on having a fundraiser to increase the current $10,000 reward.
