BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WDRB) -- It was artificial sweetener that caused a scare at a medical office building near Bardstown's Flaget Memorial Hospital on Thursday afternoon, Kentucky One Health spokesperson Barbara Mackovic said.

Authorities were called to the Flaget Medical Building on New Shepherdsville Road, near the hospital, after 3:30 p.m., on a report someone discovered an envelope containing a suspicious white powder.

The Nelson County Gazette website and PLG TV 13's Facebook page reported people inside the building were ordered to "shelter in place" until the material could be identified.

Bardstown police chief Rick McCubbin told WDRB News the situation was resolved safely and emergency responders were leaving the scene about 8 p.m.

Authorities were investigating the incident.
