(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) -- The Hillview Chief of Police claims he did nothing wrong, and the majority of city officials are standing behind him. That's after a federal indictment against Chief Glenn Caple alleges he lied to the FBI and ordered officers to move a mobile meth lab.
Caple's attorney Thomas Clay tells WDRB News, "The indictment alleges that when asked about the relocation of that backpack, Chief Caple made a false statement to this FBI agent."
The indictment claims that Caple told officers to move the mobile meth lab out of Mayor Jim Eadens' yard, but Clay says that just isn't true: "There were people there from the Hillview Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies, it was all right out there in the open, there was no intent to conceal anything."
The incident took place just three months after Mayor Eadens' son was arrested for cooking meth in the home's garage.
WDRB's Courtney Godfrey went to City Hall hoping to talk to Mayor Eadens, was repeatedly told that he wasn't available to talk. When she asked if he was even in the building, she received no answer.
WDRB News reached out to city council members, none of whom would go on camera, but all said they stand behind the chief and Mayor Eadens, and believe the truth will come out.
Caple's attorney says the FBI investigation and now federal indictment stem from a disgruntled officer. Thomas Clay says, "The FBI got involved as the result of a report the FBI received from a Hillview Police officer, that's my belief."
All that, he says, will come to light during the trial.
Caple is scheduled to be arraigned at the end of October.
