LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Authorities have identified a 74-year-old woman who died early Tuesday morning after she was hit by a vehicle on Lexington Road.

According to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office, that woman has been identified as Kusum Nahata, of Prospect.

The incident took place at about 7 a.m., according to a news release from a Louisville Metro Police spokesperson.

Officers from the 5th Division responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on Lexington Road and Penwood Road, which is close to Sacred Heart Academy.

Police said the woman identified by the coroner's office as Nahata was crossing Lexington Road, north to south from Penwood Road, when she was hit by the vehicle that was eastbound on Lexington Road. 

She was taken to UofL Hospital in downtown Louisville, where she later died from her injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.

The LMPD Traffic Unit is handling the investigation.
